In case you have to remove keys from a mechanical keyboard to clean it or to change the keys for customizable ones, you will probably have to use a key puller. These are small accessories that wrap around a keycap and allow us to remove them without the risk of damaging the keyboard or the keys themselves. That of using a knife to pry and remove them is already a thing of the past.
With a key extractor, it is very simple
Depending on the keyboard you have, some manufacturers include a key puller. If this isn’t true, you can get one that shouldn’t cost more than 8 euros in any particular house. There is a choice between a wire and plastic remover, but both work similarly to do this job well.
As seen in the screenshots, the method is very simple but there are some notes that we must take into account.
Beware of removing keys from a backlit keyboard
We must be careful when we want to remove keys on a keyboard that has LED backlighting (do not do as in the screenshot above). It is highly recommended to disconnect the keyboard or turn off the backlights since this type of lighting is harmful to the eyes and we also avoid any other eventuality.
If you don’t want to spend money on one of these accessories, you can always use a clip and bend it into a ‘U’ shape to remove keys from a mechanical keyboard, although it’s much easier with the specially prepared key extractor.
